To discuss the current controversies in microfinance research, the University of Groningen will host the Second European Research Conference on Microfinance from 16-18 June 2011. Keynote speakers include critics and supporters.
Speakers are for example Milford Bateman, the author of the famous book “Why Microfinance doesn’t work”, David Roodman of the Center of Global Development, Washington, Paul Mosley of the University of Sheffield, and several directors of Microfinance institutions in Asia and Latin America. Moreover, more than 150 research papers will be discussed.
The conference is co-organized by Globalization Studies Groningen (GSG), and the Center for International banking, Insurance and Finance (CIBIF), of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen. CIBIF has a strong track record in microfinance research, and includes several internationally well-known microfinance researchers.
