Living expenses rise by 39 euros due to higher energy costs

Date:February 22, 2011

The living expenses for owner-occupiers will this year rise by 39 euros on average (1,0 percent), mostly due to higher energy expenses. The conveyance tax and the added tax for home-owners have lowered. These are the results of the Living Expenses Monitor 2011, drawn up by the Centre for Research on Local Government Economics (COELO) at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen.

The average home-owner will this year spend 3,919 euros on his living expenses, in addition to his mortgage payments. That is 12 percent of the average income after tax. It is therefore not surprising that the rise in living expenses draws so much attention. The COELO Living Expenses Monitor 2011 provides an overview.
