Herman de Jong new dean of FEB as of 1 September

The Faculty Board is proud to announce that Professor Herman de Jong has been appointed by the Board of the University as the new Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), starting 1 September 2016 for the period of 4 years.

Our current dean Professor Harry Garretsen will step down on 1 May 2016, and will continue to be professor of International Economics and Business at FEB, now with more time to focus on his research, education and the new Centre of Expertise "In the Lead" of the FEB.
In the meantime, from 1 May to 1 September our vice-dean professor Albert Boonstra will be the dean of FEB, ad interim .

About Herman de Jong

Herman de Jong (1958) is professor of Economic History at FEB. He studied economic and social history in Groningen, and after graduating he worked for a number of years as a researcher for Shell. He then became a lecturer at FEB and in 1999 he gained his PhD. After being Associate Professor he became professor of Economic History in 2012.

Between 2004 and 2009 De Jong served as a scientific director of the N.W. Posthumus Institute, an interuniversity graduate school for economic and social history. In 2013 he received a prestigious VICI grant of NWO and in 2012 he was voted Lecturer of the Year at FEB, a prize awarded on the basis of student assessments.
