FEB-researchers Timmer and Los participate in ESRC-funded projects regarding Brexit

19 April 2017

The British ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) announced yesterday which research consortiums it has selected for conducting research on the process and consequences of the UK leaving the European Union. FEB-professors Marcel Timmer and Bart Los are contributors to two of the 25 winning consortia.

Timmer will participate in the project “The Economic Impacts of Post-Brexit Trade Options”, coordinated by the Institute of Fiscal Studies in London. The University of Essex is the third partner. Los is a member of a consortium led by the University of Birmingham, with participants from the University of Sheffield and Erasmus University Rotterdam. The title of their project is “The Economic Impacts of Brexit on the UK, its Regions, its Cities and its Sectors”.

"Leading scholars”

Both projects have a duration of 18 months. Timmer and Los will be active within the broader “The UK in a Changing Europe” initiative, directed by Anand Menon, Professor of European Politics and Foreign Affairs at Kings College London. He said: "I'm delighted to welcome such a range of leading scholars to our team. These new additions will reinforce the ability of The UK in a Changing Europe to respond to the high demand for accurate, research-based information from politicians, civil servants, journalists, businesses, civil society and the public at this crucial moment for the UK."
