|Date:||September 25, 2012|
Marjolein Oomen, master student Strategic Innovation Management at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, has received the SPOE scholarship (Scholarship Program on Entrepreneurship). The scholarship of the Dutch government, consists of a 6 month stay in the USA during which Oomen will, amongst other things, follow classes at Harvard and Stanford. She owes the scholarship to her business idea “MyBra”.
Oomen came up with a business concept selling custom made bra’s for bigger cup sizes via an innovative combination of pop-up (temporary) and online shops.
Based on her business plan and motivation Oomen was invited to pitch her business idea to the jury in The Hague. “I think it’s very cool that I will be immersed in the American top of entrepreneurial universities and companies for half a year. This way my business idea MyBra can grow faster and more effectively”, says Oomen.
Knowledge about Entrepreneurship
In the USA, Oomen will go through an intensive training program at the Kauffman Foundation, the umbrella organization that organizes this program. Following, she will attend classes at the universities of the east and the west coast of the USA and she will experience an internship at a renowned company in Silicon Valley or Boston. “I intend to return with much knowledge about entrepreneurship so I can also inspire and guide other students who ambition a career as an entrepreneur”.
The SPOE scholarship is awarded yearly to higher vocational and university students. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science offer a maximum of ten places for this intensive scholarship program. Oomen is the first RUG student who is awarded the scholarship.
