Mentoring FEB Alumni

FEB encourages mentor- mentee relationships between alumni and students since they provide numerous benefits for both individuals.

What is a mentor

Overall, a FEB alumni mentor is a person that gives advice to less experienced professionals or students.

They are referred to as their mentee. Most commonly, mentees look for mentors that work in a similar field, have the same study background or interested in a desired field. FEB mentor can help younger alumni and students develop as a professional, give advice, pass on knowledge and offer their own network.

Why become a mentor

Mentorship has many benefits for mentors and their mentees. Letting such a relationship grow can help you to grow a network, expand knowledge, and gain interpersonal skills.

  • Coaching students is an inspiring process. It benefits your own development and is an interesting professional extracurricular activity.
  • Young students are able to provide you with new and innovative perspectives on your line of work or expertise.
  • Keeping in touch with the university by mentoring, gives you access to knowledge, innovative research and an extensive international network.
  • You are in contact with talented students and graduates that could become future employers or colleagues within your organisation.
How to become a mentor

The easiest way to participate and connect with mentees is the online FEB Alumni Network platform.

In general, mentor matches are not managed by the faculty. Instead, they develop naturally on the FEB Alumni Network platform.

The platform can be understood as an online community, on which more than 5000 alumni and current students are registered by now. After creating your profile, you can indicate, whether you are interested in becoming a mentor. Other users of the platform will then see on your profile that you are willing to answer questions or give advice. In that way, mentor relationships originate, develop and grow.

Connect easily on the FEB Alumni Network platform

For making connection, we recommend using the FEB Alumni Network platform.

The alumni portal allows you to register using your LinkedIn or Google account. The portal will ask for access to information from whichever social media account you choose to use (we prefer LinkedIn). This information is used to populate your profile (which can later be modified) and to extend invitations to your connections if you decide to invite people in your network to join. When creating a profile on the system, you will be asked if you are willing to help, and how you are willing to help. Simply select the “Willing to be a give career advice to students” option. Students can also sign up to the portal. Once you are selected as a mentor, you will have the opportunity to give them career advice and enrich their personal development. Opportunities to interact with students include email, calls, a cup of coffee or of course in person. Alumni do not have to be on campus to leave a footprint at FEB. Whether you are right down the street or across the globe, we invite alumni from around the world to become a FEB Mentor.

Do you have any specific questions or would you first like to discuss a mentorship with our alumni offer? Then, please contact Susanne Klinkers.
