Binding Study Advice

For second year students: have you obtained 40 EC or more in your first year, but not yet all the propaedeutic courses? Please download the Manual student planning BSA  [PDF]

As of 1 September 2010, all degree programmes at the Faculty of Economics and Business apply a Binding Study Advice (BSA).

Binding Study Advice (BSA)

We consider it important for a student to know at an early stage if he/she has chosen the right programme. If you know at an early stage, there is still time to switch studies without losing too much time. That’s why all degree programmes at the Faculty of Economics and Business now apply a BSA in the first year.

A minimum of 40 ECTS credits

In the first year of your studies, you need to obtain a minimum of 40 ECTS credits (the entire year consists of 60 ECTS credits) and you have to complete the first-year programme within 2 years. In case you do not meet these requirements, you will have to quit the programme. This means it is important to start working towards the 60 ECTS credits right from the start. After 2-3 weeks you will sit the first intermediate exams and to pass them you will have to start working right from the first lecture. That means reading the texts carefully, but also being able to answer critical question about them. Reading alone is not enough.

BSA overviews

Four times a year, after each exam period, you will receive an overview of your study results so far. The second overview contains a provisional BSA. The last overview will be sent out to you after the resits of period 2.2 (second half of July) and contains the definitive BSA. Only a negative BSA has consequences.

Personal circumstances

If you think you will not be able to meet the BSA requirements due to personal circumstances, please contact the study advisors. The document Guidelines Personal Circumstances  [PDF]  explains in which cases this applies to you.

A negative BSA?

In case of a negative BSA, you will have to quit your current bachelor programme. In case of quitting in the course of the academic year, you will have to deregister from the programme in Studielink. In case of quitting at the end of the academic year, you will not have to deregister (you will be deregistered automatically on 31 August).

Switching within FEB

A negative BSA for one of the FEB Bachelor programmes means that you are NOT allowed to follow certain other bachelor programmes.

In case of a negative BSA for one of the following bachelors,

you are unfortunately also excluded from the following FEB bachelors:
