Mission


Duisenberg Building / Faculty of Economics and Business

The University of Groningen provides high quality research and education, is internationally oriented, respects differences in ambition and talent, works actively with business, the government and the public, and ranks among the best universities in Europe.

The mission of the Faculty of Economics and Business is:

 

  • to prepare students for a career in research or a leading position in the corporate or public sector through high-quality, research-based degree programmes in the fields of economics and business;
  • to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in these fields by conducting high-quality research;
  • to provide a stimulating and international environment for staff and students.


To accomplish its mission, FEB:

  • regularly investigates in various ways how best to serve the interests of its main stakeholders: students, the business community, governmental and non-governmental organisations and the academic world at large;
  • can rely on a broad spectrum of academic and professional expertise, ranging from business and management to industrial engineering and from economics to specialised disciplines like econometrics or accountancy;
  • seeks to attract and retain motivated students with strong intellectual abilities and representing a diversity of backgrounds;
  • has implemented a student-centred teaching concept firmly grounded in active research and in the realities of the business world and its surrounding economic systems;
  • integrates a marked academic approach to business and economics problems with training in generic and practical skills in order to equip students for successful entry to the labour market;
  • recruits outstanding academic faculty who combine the passion for knowledge creation with the genuine desire to deliver state-of-the-art, inspiring educational programmes;
  • offers faculty, PhD’s and research master students a dynamic, international research environment through the SOM research institute and the SOM graduate school;
  • has created accessible centres of applied research for the benefit of regional and (inter)national organisations and companies;
  • provides faculty and supporting staff with stimulating working and development conditions as well as attractive career perspectives;
  • maintains and expands an international network of more than 100 outstanding exchange and double degree partner institutions all over the world.
