“NO ALL-ELECTRIC SOCIETY WITHOUT GAS”
With the addition of Paul van Gelder, CEO of Gasunie, as keynote speaker, preparations for the 7th edition of the Energy Delta Convention are in full swing. This event for senior energy professionals takes place from 21 to 23 November next Groningen, the Netherlands. The Energy Delta Convention is the international event on energy transition and consists of a conference and an exhibition. The Energy Delta Convention is organized by the University of Groningen and Energy Valley foundation.
Growth
The Energy Delta Convention has grown in past editions, our aim is to continue that growth. With the support of a number of companies, governments and research institutions from the Energy Valley we succeeded in organizing an international conference. Main sponsors are the University of Groningen and GasTerra. The Energy Delta Convention increasingly focuses on the international position of the strong energy region that we have here. Themes that will be dealt with are smart grids, gas quality and Hansa Energy Corridor; the cooperation with our eastern neighbors.
Parallel to the conference there is an exhibition. Bert Wiersema: “Next to the conference we want to develop the exhibition as well, also at the request of visitors at previous edition. DLG Benelux has been attracted as a partner for that. The exhibition includes a Career square, a business square, a green gas square and stands of energy companies and suppliers to those companies. In the exhibition hall there is an open podium on which various activities take place, like the kick-off of the Career Event and the finale of the NRG Battle”.
Top speaker
With the addition of Paul van Gelder and many more we have a conference program of world-class in our hands for this edition”, according to Bert Wiersema, chair organizational committee Energy Delta Convention. Will Paul van Gelder in his keynote speech also discuss the role of governments? In his own words he replies; Europe is entering a period in which the energy mix changes significantly. In that mixture, gas plays an important and new role, such as balancing for solar and wind energy. Expansion and adaptations of the gas networks are necessary. This can only be accomplished when governments on national and EU level work well together. The delay in the construction of the NEL-pipeline in Germany – an extension of the Nord Stream – illustrates what happens when the alignment at EU level is not properly secured”.
Energy transition is the overall theme ofthe Energy Delta Convention. Paul van Gelder: “In the Netherlands we strive for al Low Carbon Society. The increasingly-heard adage of the All-Electric Society, translates here and there in the construction of residential areas without gas
. At that point I very much miss a politically balanced national policy. Inte
grated costs of our energy networks should form an important principle in that policy. Further profiling of the all-electric concept leads certainly not to the no cost-efficiency and low carbon society we all want”.
Cooperation
For the 7th edition of the Energy Delta Convention a partnership with numerous sponsors and partners has been set up, including the national research program EDGaR, largest of its kind in Europe. “There is also a cooperation with the with EBF conference where Al Gore speaks . It is possible to buy a combination ticket at a greatly reduced price” according to Bert Wiersema.
