Lectures at the University of Groningen

A variety of lectures takes place at the University of Groningen.

 

SGG

Studium Generale Groningen (SGG), hosted by the University of Groningen in partnership with the Hanze University Groningen, stages lectures and debates on science, culture and society. An annual event is the Aletta Jacobs Lecture in March, on topics relating to the lives and work of women.

 

Visiting author and visiting critic

Each autumn, a visiting author is engaged at the University of Groningen , and, on the initiative of the Faculty of Arts, a visiting critic is appointed every year. The arts faculty also organizes the biannual Horst Gerston lecture.

  

Van der Leeuw lecture

Since 1983, the University of Groningen has participated in hosting the Van der Leeuw lecture, which takes place in the Martini church. In organizing this lecture, the university collaborates with De Volkskrant, the Schip Martinikerk Foundation, the provincial authorities of Groningen , and the Groningen municipality.
