On May 1, 2012, Dr. H.V. Hogerzeil was appointed professor in Global Health, in particular in the medical curriculum, by the Jan Kornelis de Cock Foundation at the University Medical Center Groningen.
On April 1, 2012, Dr. Jansonius was appointed professor in Ophthalmology, in particular in the field of glaucoma, at the University Medical Center Groningen. His research will focus on, amongst others, an important issue in Healthy Ageing, the utilization of glaucoma guidelines among the elderly and their effectiveness (the discrepancy between glaucoma guidelines and medical practice). In addition, Jansonius will strengthen the optical research in ophthalmology.
On March 1, 2012, dr. M.A.J. de Koning-Tijssen was appointed professor in Neurological Movement Disorders at the University Medical Center Groningen.
On 1 May 2012, Andrej Zwitter will become professor by special appointment in International Relations at the Faculty of Law. The chair has been sponsored by the Netherlands Society for International Affairs (NGIZ).
Elena Gualtieri appointed Professor of Modern English Literature and Culture
On March 1, 2012, dr. H. Bootsma was appointed professor in Rheumatology at the University Medical Center Groningen. She will focus on translational research – from bench tot bedside – in particular concerning mucosal immunology and systemic autoimmune diseases.
On February 1 2012, Dr. R.P. Coppes was appointed professor of Radiotherapy, in particular Radiobiology of Normal Tissue Effects, at the University Medical Center Groningen.
On February 1, 2012, dr. Rob J.M. Groen was appointed professor in Neurosurgery at the University Medical Center Groningen. His research is focussed on vascular neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and spinal (vascular) neuroanatomy and physiology.
On 1 April 2012, Joost Herman (1963) will be appointed Professor of Globalisation Studies and Humanitarian Action at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen.
According to FEB Dean Harry Garretsen Berk is 'a wonderful addition to our Faculty. Students will be able to learn at first hand from the new Professor of Money and Banking how theoretical knowledge is implemented by a central bank.'
