This thesis aims to gain more insight into the role of biological and psychological factors in the pathogenesis of depression in general and in the peripartum in particular. Accordingly, the influence of the mono-amine system, HPA-axis functioning, female gonadal hormones and omega-3 / omega-6 fatty acids, in interaction with genetic factors and life events, were related to the onset and persistence of depressive symptoms in the peripartum.
