PhD ceremony: T.J. van Ham, 16.15 uur, Academiegebouw, Broerstraat 5, Groningen
Thesis: Caenorhabditis elegans models for protein misfolding diseases
Promotor(s): prof. R.M.W. Hofstra
Faculty: Medical Sciences
Many neurodegenerative diseases are associated with the formation of protein inclusions in the brain. Most of the inclusions contain disease specific misfolded proteins such as
alpha
-synuclein in Parkinson’s disease, and polyglutamine (polyQ)-protein in polyQ diseases. Finding and elucidating the molecular pathways involved in toxic protein aggregation related to disease will help understanding these diseases.
