In the early seventies of the previous century dental implants were introduced to the dental market to retain mandibular full prostheses. Since then, many studies have been performed to improve the implant design and to optimize the surgical and prosthetic techniques. These studies have resulted in a large increase in implant-based prosthetic concepts. This thesis was designed to gain insight into the patients’ need for surgical and prosthetic care and aftercare with respect to four major implant-based prosthetic concepts, i.e. implant-retained mandibular and maxillary overdentures, implant-retained dental crowns and implant-retained maxillofacial prostheses.
