How to get to the Academiegebouw and the University Library on foot or by bus

The Academiegebouw, including the University Student Desk, and the University Library are both in the Broerstraat. Also known as the "Broerplein" or "Academieplein".
The Academiegebouw has only a very limited number of parking places . Please park your car on a parking meter or in one of the public car parks. The closest car park is the  Q-Park Ossenmarkt  (Info in Dutch).  Plan your route to carpark Ossenmarkt .

On foot from the Ossenmarkt car park to the Academic Building

After leaving the car park, cross over the closest bridge and walk straight ahead into the Oude Boteringestraat. Turn right at the Broerstraat.

On foot or by bicycle

The Broerplein, with the Academiegebouw and the University Library, is within walking distance of the main train station. It’s about a 10 or 15-minute walk. If you like, you can hire a bicycle at the station. The way is very easy to find. To help you, we have included a map at the bottom of this page.
If you stand with your back to the station you will see the Groningen Museum in the canal in front of you. Walk towards it. Cross the bridge past the museum and continue walking straight ahead. Cross over the Zuiderdiep and continue straight on, into the Folkingestraat, towards the centre. Follow the Folkingestraat until you reach the Vismarkt. Continue straight ahead, past the Zwanestraat on your right, until you see the bookshop 'Studystore' on your right. Turn right here (Broerstraat). The entrance to the Academiegebouw is now on your left (up the stairs). The University Library is on your right.

By bus

A large number of buses go towards the Broerplein. Several buses stop on the Grote Markt, and few have stops near the A-kerk.

Directions from the Grote Markt bus stop

The bus stops close to the Martinitoren (church tower). Walk past the ABN-AMRO bank and the V&D department store, following the route to the Broerplein indicated on the map.

Directions from the A-kerk bus stop

The A-kerk bus stop is on the left of the A-kerk. From here you can follow the route marked on the map. Turn left oposite of the "Korenbeurs" at the shoeshop on the corner.
