An interesting aspect of bioinformatics is that of molecular visualization. At HPC/V we have developed an introductory course and adapted two popular visualization programs (Pymol and VMD) to make them work in the 3D Reality Cube and Reality Theatre.

The course starts with a brief introduction to the background of scientific visualization: use of colour, lighting models, ray tracing, etc. Afterwards, students learn how to use Pymol and VMD on desktop PCs, and present their work in our Reality Cube and Reality Theatre.

Aim

At the end of the course you will be able to make your own molecular visualizations on your desktop, save them as 3D presentations or create good pictures and films.

Prerequisites

None

Organisation

After a general introduction to molecular visualization, the course focuses on Pymol and VMD, both with hands-on sessions and demonstrations in the Reality Theatre and Reality Cube.
