Information for prospective students


 

The  task group Information for prospective students of the Communication department provides information for prospective students and their career advisors concerning the degree programmes of the University of Groningen. The information is provided in various ways - by organizing events, providing written information material and information on the internet, and by providing information for schools and education fairs. The task group also provides information material in English and German for the international market.

Organizing information events at the University of Groningen

  • College Carousel, introduction to the university and academia, for 4 VWO pupils
  • General Open Day, all the Bachelor's degree programmes of the University of Groningen present themselves in and around the Academiegebouw (main university building) in Groningen city centre. Intended for 4, 5, 6 VWO and HBO. 
  • Open day on site, all Bachelor's degree programmes present themselves in their own buildings. Visit to one or two degree programmes, intended for 5 and 6 VWO. 
  • Open day for late deciders, event in June for 6 VWO who haven't yet made a definitive choice and for applicants for a fixed quota programme who want to investigate alternative programmes. General morning programme, in the afternoon a visit to one degree programme. 
  • Master's degree open day, information afternoon on all Master's degree programmes at the RUG, in the Academiegebouw. 
  • Careers counsellors' day, information about new developments at the University of Groningen, intended for VWO careers counsellors. 
  • Open day for parents of prospective students: information about the differences between HBO and WO, study costs, accommodation, etc. 
  • Parents' day, for parents of second-year students.

Participation in national education fairs

  • Education fair: two-day MBO-HBO-WO fair in Groningen. 
  • Students' fair: four-day MBO-HBO-WO fair in Utrecht. 
  • National Master's fair: two-day Master's fair in Utrecht.

Publication of written information material

  • Studying in Groningen: annual information guide for prospective students with general information about studying, the University of Groningen, the city of Groningen and short descriptions of all Bachelor's degree programmes offered by the University of Groningen.   • Studying …….. in Groningen: a series of brochures that appears annually. Questions such as 'Why study X?', 'Why X in Groningen?', 'What can you become?', 'What does the programme involve?', 'Who can study X?' and 'What's life for a student of X like?' can be answered per degree programme. Can be requested via the order form (opens new window). Folders on specific subjects, such as part-time degrees in Groningen. Can be requested via the order form (opens new window). 
  • Paper for prospective Groningen students: paper that appears twice a year with background information and interviews about degree programmes, studying and student life in Groningen, and information about Open Days. 
  • Careers counsellors' bulletin: information bulletin with explanations of new developments in education and an overview of the various information activities. 
  • Information menu: overview of all information activities at the University of Groningen and the Hanzehogeschool Groningen, for careers counsellors. 
  • Information material for the international market: folders for fairs, Germany folder. 
  • Master's brochure: a brochure with all the contact details of all the Master's degree programmes at the University of Groningen.  

Information via the internet

All information brochures for degree programmes can be ordered or read on the internet. All the events also have their own site, and Information for prospective students also provides a short description of all 115 Master's degree programmes at the University of Groningen on the internet.

Information provisions in schools

A team of seven well-trained students, coached by staff from the Information for Prospective Students department, provides information about studying in higher education in schools across the Netherlands. In addition to general information about studying and student grants, the student information officers can also give a lot of information about student life. More and more schools are enthusiastically inviting them in.
