Computer work and RSI

Reading and writing

The height of the part of your desk that you use to read and write is right for you if the desktop is located a few centimetres above your elbows when your let your upper arms hang loose.

Computer work

The part of the desk that you use for computer work must be 3 to 4 centimetres lower due to the height of the keyboard, since the top of your keyboard then functions as your desktop.

If your desk has one single height you can create the height difference of 3 to 4 cm for computer work by raising your chair 4 cm and using a footrest. A table with a fixed, non-adjustable height can be heightened for taller people by means of table leg extensions. Shorter people can use a footrest.

An optimal setup for a standard monitor requires a desk depth of at least 80 cm and preferably more. In addition to height and depth, sufficient leg space is also important: you must be able to move your legs freely. A thin table top (including the frame) is therefore important, as well as leg room under the table of at least 60 cm wide. The table itself must be at least 120 cm wide.

The table and table top must not reflect light as this is very tiring for your eyes.
