Appendix 8: Subsidies for publishing the dissertation


A number of copies of the dissertation and the theses are intended for use at the university:

  

  • 9 (or 2 + an electronic version) are earmarked for the University Library for lending purposes. These copies are to be delivered to the Afdeling Expeditie (Dispatch Office) of the Library in the Poststraat (side entrance of the Library).
  • 2 copies and 2 copies of the titlepage are to be delivered to the PhD department (Promoties), Academiegebouw, Building 1112, 9712 CPGroningen .
  • As a subsidy towards the costs of these copies (including the electronic version), the candidate will receive 750 Euro.

 To correctly deliver the copies and to be eligible for the subsidy, the candidate must follow the following procedure:

 

  • The copies (and/or the electronic version) are to be handed in not later than 21 days before the date of the defence ceremony;
  • After delivery of the copies to the University Library, the candidate will receive a signed receipt;
  • 2 copies ( for the Committee of Deans and the Public Relations Office (for the press) and 2 copies of the title page  should then be delivered to the PhD department (Promoties);
  • An official of the PhD department (Promoties) will then co-sign the receipt mentioned under 2;
  • A copy of the receipt will be kept by PhD department (Promoties), which will ensure that €750 will be transferred to the candidate.s bank or giro account. If you have your bankaccount abroad, than we need the IBAN-code or SWIFT-code as well as the address of your bank.

If the candidate opts for (partially) electronic dissemination, he must fulfil the following requirements.

  • Fill out the Electronic Dissemination of Dissertations Form available from the Catalogue Department of the University Library;
  • Hand in fifteen printed copies and an electronic copy;
  • By signing the form, the candidate grants the Library the right to disseminate the electronic version of the dissertation via the Internet. If the copyright has been transferred to a third party, a written statement of assent signed by the copyright holder must be added to the form;
  • Apart from minor changes in the printer.s proof, the electronic and printed versions should be identical. All illustrations (photos, tables, etc.) included in the printed version should also be included in toto in the electronic version.
  • The files (preferably one file for each chapter) should have one of the formats listed below. Any diskettes and files should be suitable for DOS/Windows PCs. The Library should be consulted if the files are to be transferred through FTP.

Approved file formats:

  • Postscript;
  • WordPerfect for DOS, version 5.1 or higher;
  • WordPerfect for Windows, version 5.1 or higher;
  • PDF (Adobe Acrobat);
  • HTML/SGML;
  • Word for Windows, version 6.0 or higher.
