The university Groningen has 24 research institutes. Research institutes local organisations in which most of the research in Groningen is organised. Nearly all researchers at the university is a member of one research institute. The members of the institutes participate in research and teaching programmes of a research school and are therefore also member of a research school or graduate school.
For instance, members of the research institute CBN participate in the interfacultary research school Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) and in the Groningen Graduate School of Science (GGSS)
