The Digital Library Facilities Department is responsible for IT innovation within the University Library. The department is involved in many collaborative projects with partners inside and outside the university, developing services for research and training. These services aim to make the enormous bulk of information which the Groningen library possesses as easily accessible as possible by means of IT solutions. In addition, the department is responsible for the maintenance and management of a number of systems.

PurpleSearch (PS) is an experimental search engine for simultaneous searching scientific (literature) databases.
A list of used databases can be found with the Help function of PS. It concerns well over 100 files: catalogues, bibliographic files, fulltext files (such as collections of E-journals) of which the metadata can be searched and some files with factual information, such as picture databases, company information, astronomic data etc.
