4. BCN Project Management for Scientific Research 2012


Compulsory.

Preferably in the first or second year. Access to the course: 6 month after starting the PhD project.

Content

The essential elements of working within a project structure; the project assignment; the ‘interplay of forces’ surrounding a project; timetabling; decision-making; managing a project; writing a project assignment; organizational cultures; project-friendly cultures; the consultation interview; the phase model of research projects. The participants will not only become familiar with the theory, but will also practice useful skills by means of assignments and exercises. The follow ups are especially aimed at preparing the PhD students for completing their thesis within the limited time span of their research period.

Target Group

BCN PhD students in the first or second year of their appointment.

Credits

2 EC for participation in the two-day course and the follow-up sessions.

Objectives

Learn to work within a project structure as an effective method of scientific research that should result in a doctoral dissertation. A very important course for those who want to be successful as a PhD student.

Period

To be announced. PhD's will receive an invitation for this course.

Form

This course starts with two days. After approximately three months there will be a follow-up session. In both 2013 and 2014 another follow-up seminar will be organised to discuss the progress of your research project.
