Romana Schirhagl

Rosalind Franklin Fellow in Biomedical Engineering at the University Medical Center Groningen

Romana Schirhagl received her PhD in Chemistry in 2009 from Vienna University at the age of 24 as one of the youngest candidates ever. Additionally, she received an education in biology out of interest. She continued one year as a postdoc in the same department before she moved on to become a postdoc at Stanford University in 2010. Her final postdoc years she spent in the Solid State Physics Department at ETH Zurich between 2011 until 2014. She has been awarded numerous different national and international prizes. This way several different aspects of her work (scientific merit, excellent personal achievements, commercial potential, innovativeness, success in studying, performance in tests) have been recognized. One of her most prestigious honors is a Marie Curie Scholarship (FP7 IEF personal scholarship from the EU) which she obtained in 2012.

Romana Schirhagl started working at Groningen University in February 2014 and is since then leading the Bioimaging and Bioanalysis group. Her research activities focus on the development of nanoscale magnetic resonance imaging techniques.
