About us Working at the University of Groningen MBO-learn and workplaces

Secondary vocational education (MBO): work placement (BBL) or placement (BOL)

Working or doing a placement alongside your studies is a great way to develop. You can learn a profession and work at the same time through a placement or work placement at the University of Groningen (UG). If you choose to undertake a (work) placement at the UG, you will receive excellent guidance and a nice compensation for the placement or, in the case of a work placement, a good salary.

You are more than welcome at the UG if you are enrolled in a vocational education training programme (MBO), such as Office & Management Support Specialist, Expert IT systems and device, or all-round facility assistant. A lot of students do (work) placements with us every year. You can find all vacancies for BOL and BBL training programmes in the menu on the left.

Student experiences

BBL student Management Assistant: 'I found my time at the UG as a BBL student very enjoyable, and I learnt a lot. In two years, together with good guidance from the UG, I developed into a fully-fledged Management Assistant. It is nice to focus on theory one day a week, which you can then immediately put into practice at your workplace. This speeds up the learning process. In general, the UG is a good employer that pays a lot of attention to growth and development. There are many different departments and faculties, so there is something for everyone. Ultimately, I am very happy with my work placement at the UG, which offers me a lot of variety.'

BBL student Management Assistant: 'I really enjoyed my time as a BBL student at the RUG. My colleagues were very nice and we were able to work together very well. My practice supervisor offered me great guidance over the course of the BBL work placement. The main thing that I leant is that collaboration is very important to ensure that everything runs smoothly. This is pleasant both for us and our colleagues. I would recommend a BBL work placement at the UG, because you will learn many different things that you will not learn working elsewhere. There is a lot of variation in the work that you do. After my BBL training programme, I found a job as a management assistant at the UG. The UG is a very appealing employer and there is still a lot of variety in the work that I do.'
