University of Groningen Alumnus Album Amicorum wins international prize

15 June 2011

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has given the Album Amicorum, the graduation present for Master’s students and PhD students of the University of Groningen, a Silver Award. CASE – which has its head office in the USA – is regarded as the world’s most important organization of professionals concerned with alumni policy and fundraising in Higher Education.

The Album Amicorum received a Silver Award from CASE in the category Excellence in design: Books.

Memento

For centuries, academics carried around with them an album amicorum, book of friends, containing collections of memories of friends and situations important to them. The Album Amicorum developed by the University of Groningen is a continuation of this tradition.
The Album (160 pages, bound in a luxury edition) is a permanent memento in word and especially in images reminding graduates of their time in the city of Groningen and at the University. The book can also be personalized: friends can write in it or personal photos can be included.

Noorderlicht

This concept was the brainchild of Bert Wolfkamp of the department of Alumni Relations & Fundraising of the University of Groningen, who subsequently developed the album in cooperation with the Noorderlicht photo exhibition.
The present for recent alumni of the University has been made financially possible thanks to an initiative by alumnus Jan Zegering Hadders, member of the board of the Ubbo Emmius Fund and former chair of the board of ING Netherlands.
